Share

Here’s an exciting roundup of new businesses that have recently opened or are set to launch in Germantown, MD:

  • Sakura Go is set to open at 20940-B Frederick Road in the Neelsville Village Center, taking over the space previously occupied by BGR (Burgers Grilled Right), which closed its doors in January. This new eatery will feature a diverse menu that includes hibachi dishes, poke bowls, and pho, showcasing a delightful fusion of Japanese and Vietnamese flavors, all focused on fresh ingredients. Customers can also enjoy online ordering and catering services. Sakura Go already has locations in Clinton, MD, and Kettering, MD.
  • Kusshi Sushi has signed a lease for the former Zane Japanese Eatery site next to Beers and Cheers in Germantown. This space has previously been home to Indian Bistro and EN Asian Bistro and Sushi. Kusshi made its first appearance in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose in 2018 and quickly gained a dedicated following for its premium sushi, innovative rolls, and chic, casual vibe. The brand’s success has led to rapid expansion in the region, including new locations in Bethesda, Rockville Town Square, and Downtown Silver Spring. This will mark Kusshi’s first location in the upcounty area of Montgomery County.
  • The drive-thru Dunkin’ at Fox Chapel Shopping Center (19781 Frederick Rd.) will be reopening soon. The temporary closure has raised concerns among locals, but it’s simply for a remodel. A sign at the location confirms that Dunkin’ is undergoing renovations and will reopen once the work is completed. During this time, customers can visit nearby Dunkin’ locations, including the Clarksburg store at 22610 Newcut Road. This update comes as Dunkin’ continues to expand throughout Montgomery County.
  • Authentic African Restaurant, which opened in June 2024 at 13075 Wisteria Drive in Germantown Plaza, has undergone a complete renovation and rebranding, now operating as DONO Authentic Restaurant and Lounge. The revamped space features a modern lounge, enhanced services, and new event options, including catering and private bookings. DONO will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant has also introduced a lively Happy Hour with a live DJ playing Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Go-Go, and more.
  • Dollar Tree is set to open in the former Staples location at 20906 Frederick Road. Known for its budget-friendly merchandise, Dollar Tree is expanding its presence in the area. This new store will contribute to its growing footprint in Montgomery County, where the company is moving into larger retail spaces to offer a wider variety of products. Construction has also begun on a new Dollar Tree at 11130 New Hampshire Avenue in White Oak. Previously, we reported on the company’s expansion, including a Dollar Tree that opened in Cloverly Town Center in April 2025, and another in North Bethesda last year, along with a recent addition in the Kentlands area of Gaithersburg.
  • Marco’s Pizza has entered a franchise agreement to open three new locations in Montgomery County, led by cousins Sri Masabathula and Sasi Vaddi under SS Brothers Pizza, LLC. The first Germantown location is expected to launch within the next year, with two additional stores planned over the following two years, though specific locations have yet to be announced. Masabathula began his career delivering pizzas for Papa John’s and has always aspired to own a pizza franchise. After a brief stint in IT, he realized his true passion lies in building community connections through the pizza business.
