After a week spent staying cozy indoors during snow shoveling sessions, it’s the perfect moment to venture out for lunch or dinner. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the Baltimore dining scene this week:
Openings & Announcements
If you haven’t heard yet, Canton has introduced an exciting new speakeasy named Highball, nestled within the Bank St. Deli. This intimate bar, operating from Wednesday to Saturday, offers a unique atmosphere perfect for enjoying a cocktail paired with a delectable snack.
Following a short hiatus, Charming Elephant is now back in action, welcoming guests daily.
Snow Update
Recent snowstorms and icy conditions compelled many restaurants to temporarily close, making it challenging for both staff and patrons to navigate. As a result, local eateries are eager for your business this week – it’s a great opportunity to visit your favorite spots or explore new options.
With restaurants making sure their parking areas are cleared, many have also noted that if you want to keep your parking space, delivery could be a convenient choice as well. While delivery apps are available, check if your favorite restaurants provide their own delivery services. For example, Raffy’s on 36th offers a platform to order online for either pickup or delivery within a specific area.
The weather has also influenced some schedules – for instance, Silver Queen Café’s Dark Beer Dinner was initially set for Jan. 29 but has been postponed to Thursday, Feb. 5, ensuring that more guests can attend without complications for their delivery teams.
Restaurant Weeks Continue
Baltimore Restaurant Week is still ongoing, officially lasting until Sunday, Feb. 1. However, keep an eye on social media for your favorite venues; many may choose to extend this promotion due to the adverse weather conditions from last week. For instance, Sotto Sopra will be serving its restaurant week menu alongside its regular offerings throughout February.
La Caleta at Alma
This week marks the return of Alma Cocina Latina’s rum-centric pop-up bar, La Caleta. On Monday, Feb. 2, the bar will present an array of rum cocktails and arepas, creating a delightful escape from the winter chill.
Baltimore on TV
On Feb. 4, Baltimore’s very own Jason Hisley will make an appearance on Netflix’s special episode of “Is It Cake?” for Valentine’s Day. Jason is set to compete alongside his partner, Tyler, against two other real-life couples, all striving to convince celebrity judges that their creations are genuine cakes and not imposters.
Carnevale at Cinghiale
Cinghiale is all set to bring back its lavish Carnevale masquerade party this year, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6. The event will kick off with drinks in the Enoteca, followed by an exquisite four-course Venetian dinner, enhanced by a performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
