The festive season often brings out a sense of joy and generosity, especially among those involved with a nonprofit from Baltimore that’s making a positive impact by transforming food into a source of support.
Love & Cornbread has introduced a unique cornbread mix made locally, and every purchase contributes to providing meals for children in Baltimore City.
This brand-new cornbread mix is available for purchase online, and shoppers can also find it in stores such as Eddies of Roland Park, Graul’s Market, the Made in Baltimore Holiday Pop-Up Shop, and various local gourmet shops. Chef Amanda Lott, who previously served as the Executive Pastry Chef at Cunningham’s Bakery in Towson, has crafted this mix exclusively for Love & Cornbread. The organization also offers other cornbread mixes, including Sunday Supper (a comforting, fluffy classic), Sweet & Spicy (with a hint of heat), and Rise & Shine (a high-rising muffin great for breakfast).
This product launch is more than just a business venture; it is driven by a mission to combat childhood hunger. As federal funding dwindles, families are losing their SNAP benefits, and ACA subsidies will be phased out at the start of the new year. The issue of food insecurity affects countless Maryland residents.
“This isn’t merely cornbread—it represents our community’s collective effort to support one another,” stated Sue May, the executive director of Love & Cornbread. “Each bag that’s sold helps provide nutritious food for children in our city.”
Love & Cornbread began its journey in August 2000 on the streets of West Baltimore, where they offered homemade mac and cheese along with freshly made cornbread. Today, this organization prepares and distributes 26,000 chef-created meals annually to those in need. By selling their cornbread mixes and merchandise, they continue to support their mission, prioritizing the welfare of Baltimore’s children.
The organization proudly embraces the motto, “Everybody deserves cornbread,” which May interprets as, “Everyone deserves delicious food made with care.”
